How do I know if I have cataracts?

A cataract is a progressive clouding of the eye’s natural lens that interferes with light passing through to the retina. The only way to achieve clear vision again is to remove the cataract and insert a clear artificial lens.

Signs and symptoms of cataracts:

  • Eye strain when reading
  • Difficulty seeing while driving- glare and halos around lights
  • Double vision
  • Frequent changes in eyeglass prescriptions
  • Blurred or dim vision

Cataract development is usually a slow process but can occasionally occur rapidly. Many people are unaware they have cataracts because the changes in their vision are very gradual.
